One is old and the other is newer (SN A045XX and SN 166XX). The old one does not have "NM" machined into the receiver, yet the rifle was built full beautifully. Thick straight-grain walnut stock, wide body. May 9, 2017 · Bolts and op rod function are smooth as silk as well. Of my Springfields, my Scout Squad had extraction/ejection issues, poor fitment, and accuracy was a poor 5 MOA. My Socom model had feeding issues, very poor fitment, no barrel draw, the op rod was hitting the scope mount, and it shot abysmal 7+ MOA groups. I love the look of this rifle with the original olive green/grey parkerizing and the receiver, barrel, op-rod, rear sights and flash hider are all the same coloring. In 1966, that misused, abused, beat-up piece of metal and wood regularly knocked down the man-sized pop-up silhouette targets at all distances from 50 meters out to 450 meters.Here's my understanding and recollections: 1. M14/M1A is a gas port actuated rifle, which means it is sensitive to port pressure to function correctly.
